J&K residents unhappy with the
draft report submitted by the
Delimitation
Commission
Delimitation
work was going on in Jammu and Kashmir for the past one year, the people of
both the provinces are not happy with the recent draft report of the
Delimitation Commission while all Kashmir-based parties have expressed their
extreme unhappiness over the report, even Jammu-based parties and organizations
have also expressed dissatisfaction. The parties in Kashmir have completely
rejected the report, calling it unfair and partisan. Kashmir has been allotted
only one of the seven new seats proposed by the commission, with the other six
seats being allotted to Jammu, with public anger over the region's total of 47
seats for Kashmir, compared to 43 for Jammu. This has given rise to a strong
feeling that the population criterion has not been taken into account.
The draft report has also not done well in Jammu. Jammu-based parties are dissatisfied that Kashmir continues to have more seats in the Legislative Assembly in Kashmir even after six new seats have been allotted to Jammu. Ever since the abrogation of Article 370 in August, 2019, it is expected that the changes made in J&K will be aimed at empowering the Jammu region. As such, many organizations and individuals had hoped that the Delimitation Commission would tilt the political balance in favour of Jammu and that it would bear the region equitably if it did not have a greater share of seats in the Legislative Assembly. Jammu based parties, organizations and public say that the delimitation has been done according to the 2011 population census, which is wrong because the 2011 population census has not been done correctly, it has been biased from Jammu, hence the allocation of seats in Jammu and Kashmir must be equal. The party and the people on both sides say that the two regions, South Kashmir (Anantnag) and Rajouri, have invented a new miracle in the form of a parliamentary constituency, due to which the residents of these two areas are not happy because the residents of both the regions have different aspirations, problems and challenges. The Commission should not do such experiments and play with the sentiments of the people, which may create anger among the public.
Due
to this, the people of Sunderbani sub-district of Rajouri are also not happy
with the delimitation commission. At the same time, BDC chairman Arun Sharma
said that the Sunderbani torn in two parts by delimitation commission, due to
which feelings, aspirations and political interests of people's were hit, now
to compensate for its political loss, a long-lasting movement will be started in
Sunderbani from tomorrow in which the people of Sunderbani and its surrounding
areas have been cordially invited so that the Sunderbani has been divided into
two pieces by the Government through the Delimitation Commission could get
their demand and the simple and innocent people of Sunderbani are connected
with Anantnag of Kashmir, to get rid of it and the people of Sunderbani get separate
assembly constituency, they should get their identity so that the fight started
by the last three generations of the people of Sunderbani to get political
rights, reaches a successful conclusion.
